Nintendo Announces 2DS
Japanese electronics company Nintendo has recently announced the launch of Nintendo 2DS, a dedicated portable gaming system that plays all Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo DS games in 2D.
Nintendo 2DS is the newest member of the Nintendo 3DS family, and it is specifically targeted at enthusiastic game players searching for a more reasonably priced entry point into the world of Nintendo hand-held video games.
Reggie Fils-Aime, chief executive of Nintendo in the United States, has fervently described the new gaming console as “one of the strongest and most diverse video game lineups in our history”.
“Today we’re making those unique Nintendo experiences more accessible and affordable. However you play, and whatever you play, Nintendo has you covered,” he added.
A more comprehensive description has been published on the company’s official website: ” Nintendo 2DS maintains many of the same hardware features as Nintendo 3DS: dual screens, game-play controls and touch-screen features.”
“The system also has backward compatibility with the existing library of more than 2,000 Nintendo DS games, as well as access to wireless connectivity features like multiplayer online game play, fun Nintendo Video content and great digitally delivered games in the Nintendo eShop.”
Nintendo 2DS runs the whole catalogue of ready-made and downloadable video games for Nintendo 3DS but in 2D. The system features an unique set, slate-type form factor, for which additional carrying cases will be available in Red or Blue at launch.
Gamers keen to try out the new system will have the opportunity starting with October, when Nintendo 2DS joins a sampling tour in association with Simon Malls, during which it will visit many different marketplaces before it wraps up on November 3rd. Additional information about the tour can be found on their official website.
Nintendo 2DS is due out for launch on October 12th, date which coincides with the official release of Pokemon X and Y. DS2 will be available for $130.
